Disease of the peripheral nerves (neuropathies) and muscles (myopathies) can present itself in many ways:

• Do you experience difficulty walking or suffer from unexplained falls? 
• Do you get muscle ache/pain (myalgia) whilst at rest or during exercise? 
• Do you suffer with cramps or feelings of weakness? 
• Do your feet ever feel numb; burn or have pins and needles?

Neuropathies and myopathies can be inherited (genetic) or acquired (inflammation, toxin) and are often complex to accurately diagnose. Examination and analysis of your symptoms, distribution, past medical history and appropriate investigations help determine the underlying cause and management. In addition to blood tests, NCS/EMG investigations and medical imaging, occasionally a muscle/nerve biopsy will be needed.
